Based in London, Richard Miles Antiques deals in very fine and unusual 18th and 19th century English country house furniture and British colonial (Anglo-Indian and China Trade) furniture and works of art. Anglo-Indian furniture is made of exotic woods - ebony and related woods such as macassor and calamander, as well as satinwood and padouk. Much of this antique furniture was made for governors, administrators fo the East India Company, senior military officers and Indian royalty that wanted to emulate their British counterparts. In the past year, there has been an increased interest in antique ebony furniture, both colonial and English. Over 20 years of dealing, Richard Miles has built an extensive knowledge of furniture from British India and campaign furniture from China, as well as the furniture and decorative objects that adorned wealthy 18th & 19th century English estates. Due to his adherence to a strict policy of buying pieces of the highest quality and the rarity of the best examples of colonial antique furniture, the stock is small and sells rapidly. |
